High Cholesterol At A Young Age?!

Tamra S. :
"I mostly do a lot of running, some cycling, and have now incorporated strength training in. I went to get my physical a few weeks ago and I have high cholesterol and high triglycerides, yet I don't eat meat and rarely eat dairy. What ratio should I be eating of fat/protein/carbs? I have a sneaky suspicion I eat too many carbs and not enough protein or fat."
Seth Estrada:
"I'm sorry to hear that, it must have been quite a shock. For someone with the obvious goals of endurance, and strength training as a cross-training modality, I would say look into the core principles of the Zone diet, or a 40:30:30 ratio. 40% of your calories would come from carbohydrate, 30% from lean protein, and 30% from healthy fats. You might also try some sort of cruelty-free eggs (free range, cage free, etc), as the yolks tend to be higher in the enzymes necessary for processing dietary cholesterol.

Some good reading material for this is 'Enter the Zone' and 'Mastering the Zone' by Barry Sears, Ph.D. I sincerely hope that you see this trend turn around without the long term use of medication."
