Here are three reasons you can't seem to move the needle on that bathroom scale in the right direction- and how to fix them:
- You ignore the specifics of nutrition, choosing to believe that your exercise will somehow make up the difference.
- You make excuses when you flat out mess up- to spare your own feelings, because...
- You beat yourself up too much when you finally admit guilt- In short, regardless of the underlying reason, you fear the consequence of failure more than you crave the taste of victory.
So how do you pull out of this downward spiral?
- Go just a tiny bit easier on yourself emotionally- this is not a get-out-of-jail-free card to sass your coach/trainer, but you need to stop freaking out so damn much. It's a little mistake; let it go, for cryin' out loud. Commit here and now- to yourself and your coach- to doing better. When in doubt, let your trainer give the critique. Your job is just to stay focused.
- Stop making excuses to spare your own feelings- excuses fool no one but you. Do you want to be a deluded person? In other words, do you want to live like a fool? Obviously not, so cut that crap out- now. It's never too late to stop making lame excuses- especially if the emotional stakes are just a little lower, as per point 1.
- Acknowledge that the devil's in the details - some people can skate by, getting 95% of the desired effect by putting in only 50% of the effort, it seems. You cannot. Period. Do the hard work of hashing out the details of nutrition, and don't stop until you've reached your goal, and stayed at your goal or beyond for a full year.
I can't promise that these are easy attitudes to change, but I can promise with 100% certainty that if you do change them, you will radically transform your life- beyond your physique.
Stay Strong, Friends.
